A classic homemade eggnog cocktail, rich with cream, warm spices, and bourbon. A must-have for your Christmas celebrations.
4 egg yolks
1/2 cup sugar
2 cups whole milk
1 cup heavy cream
1/2 cup bourbon or dark rum
1 tsp vanilla extract
1/2 tsp ground nutmeg
Freshly grated nutmeg for garnish
1. In a large bowl, whisk egg yolks and sugar until creamy and pale.
2. In a saucepan over medium heat, combine milk and cream. Heat until hot but not boiling.
3. Slowly pour the hot milk mixture into the egg mixture, whisking constantly to temper the eggs.
4. Return the mixture to the saucepan and cook over low heat, stirring constantly until slightly thickened (about 5–7 minutes).
5. Remove from heat, stir in bourbon, vanilla extract, and ground nutmeg.
6. Cool to room temperature, then refrigerate for at least 2 hours.
7. Serve chilled, topped with freshly grated nutmeg.
Use pasteurized eggs or cook the egg mixture to 160°F for food safety.
Make ahead and store for up to 3 days in the fridge.
Can be made alcohol-free by skipping the bourbon.
